Closing Statement from the Board of Directors

It is with great regret, but also with great pride for all we have accomplished in our community over the last 39 years, that The Board of Directors of Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption announces its decision to close our agency at the end of the present fiscal year, effective June 30, 2017.
The Board of Directors of FCA came to this decision after a great deal of thought, and deep reflection. Over the past 5 years, like many other wonderful local non-profits, FCA has seen a continuing and consistent reduction in the external financial resources which are needed to effectively run our service programs. These financial resource reductions have been across the board, in all categories of funding, and have impacted the agency on all levels. Unfortunately, the best efforts of both the Board of Directors and the staff of FCA to find alternate resources to continue operating the agency have not led to a meaningful change in this long term trend.
Ultimately the Board of Directors was left with a very difficult decision to make, and believes that the most responsible choice available to us at this time is to focus on closing the agency in a conscientious and planned fashion, rather than wait for external factors to dictate less organized outcomes.
Over the next six months the staff and Board of the agency will work together to help facilitate the best outcomes possible for our clients, helping them find other service resources in our community to help meet their needs, as best we can. We will also continue to work with all governmental and private entities with whom we have had such great working relationships over the years, to be sure this entire process is done responsibly and we fulfill all outstanding obligations as we move toward the closure of the agency.
FCA has been a part of the Fairbanks service community for almost 40 years. During this time, the impact of the services we have provided has had a very profound and positive effect in our community. It is a legacy of service that we are very proud of, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank - most sincerely and from the bottom of our hearts - each and every person, group, business and community service agency who has helped us along the way. With your support, our agency has brought families together, and helped them stay stronger. We could never have done this without the support of the community, for which we will remain truly grateful.
