Group Counseling and Support
- Adults 
Groups are formed depending on current client need. Groups may include: Women who are
experiencing, and may have been diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety disorders. Women who have
survived the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, and are still stuggling with the issues and its effects
on their lives, relationships and families. Women whose lives have been impacted by or who have experienced
domestic violence in the past. Women who have been in relationships with child sexual offenders.
REFERRAL SOURCES: Open to anyone who fits the criteria for group
inclusion. All new clients must go through FCA’s Intake Counselor.

FEES: Group rates run between $25 and $85 per hour. Fee assistance
is available for clients who fall within
the eligibility guidelines. Approximately 65% of our clients receive reduced cost services.
WOMEN AND ANXIETY/DEPRESSION
Who Fits This Group: Women who are experiencing, or may have been diagnosed with, depression
and/or anxiety disorders. These symptoms can include but are not limited to: loss of
interest in usual activities, feeling sad most of the time, changes in appetite or sleep
patterns, crying for no apparent reason, fatigue, insomnia, general feelings of anxiety
and or panic attacks.
Group Goals and Purpose: Women in our society experience depression and anxiety for a
multitude of reasons and in greater numbers than ever before. The purpose of this group is
to provide women with a nurturing and supportive environment in which they can develop skills
for managing symptoms of depression and anxiety and identify the issues, life choices or
stressors that may be contributing to the development of such symptoms.
Group Description: The group meets every week to provide opportunities for women to share
their feelings and experiences, report progress, receive educational materials and practice
newly acquired skills. Group time will also include therapeutic movement designed to increase
body awareness and the connection between mind and body wellness.
When/Where: This is an on-going group that meets each Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at
FCA. Group time may be adjusted according to each group's needs. Please contact FCA's Intake Counselor to
where you can be served.

ADULT WOMEN SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
Who Fits This Group: Women who have survived the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, and are still struggling
with the issues and its effects on their lives, relationships and families.
Group Goals and Purpose:A three-month group focusing intensely on the issues and
ramifications of having been sexually abused in childhood. The group will explore, identify and discuss
the dynamics and long-term impacts of sexual abuse on the victim and the victim’s families. Participants
learn to identify negative coping skills and defense mechanisms and replace them with more appropriate
skills, and increase their ability to protect themselves and their children from future abuse. The group
modality also helps clients build rapport and trust and create professional and peer support systems.
Group Description: This is a closed group. No new members will be admitted after the
initial meeting. Women will explore the impact of childhood sexual trauma through various modalities,
including dance movement therapy, creative/artistic expression and traditional therapy.
When/Where: This group meets each week for six months. Date and time to be determined. Contact FCA's

WOMEN AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Who Fits This Group: Women who struggle in their interpersonal relations and who experience
problems with intimacy. Women who feel they have turned away from themselves, and from self-direction in
achieving their goals and aspirations. Women who are willing to involve in emotional, spiritual and intellectually
self-examination with other women in a supportive learning space. Women willing to take the time needed to help time
bring about personal change and improvement in their lives.
How: The first step is to call and talk to FCA's Intake Counselor. She will answer general
questions regarding the EST group, discuss fees and fee assistance, and arrange a meeting with group facilitator.
The group facilitator will want to know why you feel you would like to participate in the group.
In order for the group to function properly the counselor will need to meet you, and you the counselor. The
meetings will help decide if the group is right for you and to prepare you to enter the group. In order to do
so, it is important for you to understand the goals and objective of EST women’s group and what will the group
expect from you to help maintain group integrity, safety and trust of the women.
Group Description:The EST group is a unique opportunity to participate in a learning group
that will also include a therapeutic process by a trained group worker who practices psychotherapy. Most
people avoid therapy groups for a variety of reasons however, group is a valid method of treatment for people
who suffer from emotional turmoil which can include feelings of anxiety, inadequacy, despair, and fear. The
educational segment of the group will have a major focus on female victims of domestic violence and co-dependent
relationships. Domestic Violence centers on power and control while co-dependency will center on lost of Self-hood
and Self-esteem. This portion of the group is interactive learning and discussion. The environment is supportive,
challenging but non-threatening. The learning segment helps lay the foundation for the group therapy process.
EST plus stands for E-education, S-support, T-therapy.
