Hi,
My name is Suzn Hanson, and I actually live in Fairbanks, but I have been in Iraq for 1 1/2 years now. As I was catching up on news with the on-line News Miner one day, thinking of "home" I say an article about a recent run and it also mentioned the Mosquito Meander and the Midnight Sun Run. I used to do these every year, except when I was here in Iraq (before), and I got a little homesick and really missed doing all the summer things I used to do. So I asked my very good friend Erna if she would mind registering me for both of the events and scan me the front of the T-shirt and bib numbers so I could it here. When I mentioned to one of my co-workers what I was going to do, he asked if I could get him registered also. He said he always wanted to see Alaska, and this might be a close as he gets :) . Erna was nice enough to return again and register Miguel and scan me his bib number (ain't technology grand :) ) |
I was going to start at the same time as the start in Fairbanks, but after walking around yesterday at even 0730, it was already hot. We decided that we would get up at 5:30 and start by 6:00. (I sacrificed my late day, of usually coming in at 1000 because I work until 2300 to 2400 on Saturdays. We work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, so we have to fit it in the best we can.). We had our start and finish times verified and initialed by one of our co-workers at the MWR to document out time walked. The only thing is, I think we walked a little more than the 5K because we missed the first turn on the map they gave us for the 5K and walked until we could cut back to the map road. :) But it was fun, and I got to do a little bit of what I would do at home.
I sent some pictures and our bibs with the times verified. Hopefully you will be able to list our times in the paper along with everyone else.
Thank you!!
